Ambrose & Waterston Return To Shakespeare In The Park For Summer 2008

Lauren Ambrose in last year's production of Romeo & Juliet

The announced run of Hamlet for the Public Theater's 2008 series of Shakespeare In The Park has completed its cast, adding Lauren Ambrose and Sam Waterston.

The production, starring Michael Stuhlbarg in the title role, will feature Ambrose as Ophelia and Waterston as Polonius. The roles had previously been cast with Lily Rabe (Crimes Of The Heart) and Richard Easton, respectively, but both actors had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.

Both Ambrose and Waterston have a history with Shakespeare In The Park, with Ambrose headlining last year's production of Romeo & Juliet. Waterston himself played Hamlet during the Public Theater's previous production of Hamlet 33 years ago.

The cast includes Andre Braugher as Claudius, alongside Margaret Colin as Gertrude, David Harbour as Laertes, Kevin Carroll as Horatio, Hoon Lee as Rosencrantz, Piter Marek as Bernardo and Fortinbras, Greg McFadden as Guildenstern, Julio Monge as Osric and Francisco, Paul O'Brien as Voltemand and Priest, Gilbert Owuor as Marcellus, Jay O. Sanders as Ghost, Gravedigger and Player King, and Miriam Silverman as Player Queen.

The ensemble comprises Christopher Bonewitz, Matt Carlson, W. Tre' Davis, Stephen James King and Dana Lyn. The Hamlet creative team includes scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Michael Chybowski and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.

Hamlet begins at the Delacorte Theatre in New York City's Central Park on May 27 and will run until June 29. An official opening night is scheduled for June 17.
