MTC's From Up Here Opens At Stage I In NYC

Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Liz Flahive’s From Up Here begins opens April 16th at NY City Center - Stage I. The show began previews on March 27th.

The cast of the world premiere play, directed by Leigh Silverman (Yellow Face, Well), features Tony Award winner Julie White, along with Jenni Barber, Arija Bareikis, Aya Cash, Brian Hutchison, Will Rogers, Tobias Segal, Joel Van Liew.

According to press notes, From Up Here focuses on a high school student by the name of Kenny Barrett, who "did something that has everyone worried. He wishes he could just make it through the rest of his senior year unnoticed, but that's going to be hard since he has to publicly apologize to his entire high school. At home, his family is struggling with second marriages, surprise visits, school dances, and forgotten dry cleaning."

Julie White plays Grace Warren, the recently remarried mother of Kenny and Lauren Barrett. Aya Cash plays Lauren, Kenny Barrett’s sister; Will Rogers plays Charlie, a schoolmate of Lauren and Kenny’s, and Joel Van Liew plays the dual roles of Mr. Goldberger, the school counselor, and Stevens, a recent acquaintance of the family.

From Up Here marks Julie White’s first New York stage role since receiving the Best Actress Tony Award for her performance in Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed. For her work in the play’s original off-Broadway production, she received an Obie Award as well as Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lortel, and Drama League nominations. White’s other theatre credits include: Spike Heels, Family of Mann, and Bad Dates all with frequent collaborator Theresa Rebeck; The Heidi Chronicles, Dinner With Friends, Fiction, and Barbra’s Wedding.

The creative team includes Allen Moyer (scenic design), Mattie Ullrich (costume design), Pat Collins (lighting design), and David Caparelliotis (casting).
