Laurence Fishburne's One Man Show, Thurgood, Opens April 30

Thurgood, starring Laurence Fishburne, officially opens at the Booth Theatre on April 30. The show began previews on April 12.

It was announced in late October 2007 that the one-man show about Civil Rights great and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall would launch on Broadway with Fishburne in the lead role. The Broadway move is following a previous tryout run at the Westport Country Playhouse in April and May of 2007. The tryout production starred James Earl Jones, who was expected to transfer to Broadway with the show before accepting his current role as Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

Leonard Foglia, who directed the Wesport run, is also helming the Broadway production. Fishburne's previous stage experience has garned him two Tony Awards, along with Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards for his performance in Two Trains Running. The actor is perhaps best known for his recent starring role in The Matrix trilogy of films. Other big screen credits include Mission: Impossible III, The Tuskegee Airmen, The Color Purple, Apocalypse Now, and more.
