MTC Announces 2008-2009 Season May Be Ruined
![]() Playbill.com reports that Lynn Nottage's drama Ruined is slated for the Manhattan Theatre Club's 2008-2009 season. The play, set in the Congo in the present day, centers around Mama Nadi, a savvy businesswoman who, in the midst of a complex civil war, protects and profits from the women whose bodies have become a battleground. Commissioned and developed by the Goodman Theatre, Ruined will make its world premiere in Chicago in the fall of 2008 before heading to New York. MTC has not decided on a Broadway or off-Broadway venue or date for the show. Kate Whoriskey will direct the production in Chicago and New York. Nottage's work was last seen at the Goodman in 2006 when Crumbs from the Table of Joy, directed by Chuck Smith, was staged. Nottage is the recipient of numerous awards including an OBIE Award for playwriting, New York Drama Critics Circle Award, John Gassner Outer Critics Circle Award, American Theatre Critics/Steinberg 2004 New Play Award, 2004 Francesca Primus Award and two AUDELCO awards.
