A Bronx Tale Announces National Tour Upon Closing

A Bronx Tale, which ended its limited engagement on Broadway Feb. 24 after two show extensions, recouped its entire initial investment, according to the producers.

Additionally, the producers announced that the one-man show, written by and starring stage and screen actor Chazz Palminteri, will begin a national tour in late 2008. Cities and dates have yet to be announced.

A Bronx Tale — which the actor performed in Los Angeles and Off-Broadway in the late '80s, inspiring the 1993 film of the same name — began previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre Oct. 4, 2007, and officially opened Oct. 25. The show recouped its investment despite being hobbled by the November 2007 stagehands strike that shut down most all Broadway productions for the month.

The 18-week run of the Jerry Zaks-directed production played a total of 19 previews and 108 regular performances. In the semi-autobiographical solo show, Palminteri plays 18 roles that depict "a rough childhood on Bronx streets populated by a cast of friends and enemies."

The design team comprised Paul Gallo (lighting design), James Noone (set design), and John Gromada (original music and sound design).
