Roundabout Announces Show Extensions For Crimes, Sunday

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced extensions for its two new productions: Sunday In The Park With George and Crimes Of The Heart.

The Broadway production of the Menier Chocolate Factory’s Sunday in the Park with George has been extended four weeks through to June 15th. This production of Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize winning musical is directed by Sam Buntrock with musical staging by Christopher Gattelli.

The Georges Seurat painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, is the inspiration for this compelling musical fantasy which celebrates the art of creation and the creation of art. The first half of Sunday in the Park with George, set in 1884, sees the painting and its rich comic tapestry come to life in a world where, for Georges, art comes before love, before everything. In the second half, set in 1980s New York, we see the great grandson of Georges and his search for inspiration amongst the unfolding world of contemporary art.

The show stars Daniel Evans (George), Jenna Russell (Dot & Marie), Michael Cumpsty (Jules & Bob), Alexander Gemignani (Boatman & Dennis), Jessica Molaskey (Yvonne & Naomi), and Mary Beth Peil (Old Lady & Blair). The cast also includes Ed Dixon (Mr. & Charles), Santino Fontana (Soldier & Alex), Kelsey Fowler (Louise), Jessica Grové (Celeste #2 & Silent Artist), Alison Horowitz (Louise), Stacie Morgain Lewis (Frieda & Betty), Drew McVety (Louis & Billy), Anne L. Nathan (Nurse, Mrs. & Harriet), Brynn O’Malley (Celeste #1), and David Turner (Franz & Lee).

Sunday in the Park with George began previews on January 25th and opened officially on February 21st at Studio 54.

Additionally, the off-Broadway production of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Crimes of the Heart, written by Beth Henley and directed by Kathleen Turner, has been extended for one week. The cast features Patch Darragh (Doc Porter), Jennifer Dundas (Lenny Magrath), Sarah Paulson (Meg Magrath), Lily Rabe (Babe Botrelle), Jessica Stone (Chick Boyle), and Chandler Williams (Barnette Lloyd).

Crimes of the Heart is, according to press notes, "a sharply funny play about the sometimes frayed edges of sisterly bonds. The Magrath sisters have trouble with men. Lonely Lenny (Dundas) never married, failed singer/actress Meg (Paulson) lost count, and the youngest, Babe (Rabe) married an abuser—and shot him. Now the sisters reunite at Old Granddaddy’s home in Hazelhurst, Mississippi to face life’s most absurd tragedies. Alone, each woman might call it quits. Together, they’ll have the most hilarious time of their lives.

The show began previews on January 18th and opened officially on February 14th at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.
