Chekhov's The Seagull, Starring Alan Cumming & Dianne Wiest, Opens
![]() The Classic Stage Company's upcoming production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull opens March 13th at the Classic Stage Company Theatre. The show began previews on February 20th. The production stars Alan Cumming as Boris Alexeyevich Trigorin and Dianne Wiest as Irina Arkadina, Trigorin's lover. The story is a tragi-comic tapestry of the affects that selfish artists have on their families. Both Arkadina and Trigorin are portrayed as oblivious agents to the downfall of a younger generation of artists, including Arkadina's own son, Konstantin. They are joined by Annette O'Toole as Paulina Andryevna, as well as Kelli Garner (Nina Mikhailovna Zarechnaya), Ryan O'Nan (Konstantin Gavrilovich Treplev), David Rasche (Yevgeny Sergeyevich Dorn), John Christopher Jones (Pyotr Nikolayevich Sorin), Bill Christ (Ilya Shamrayev), Ryan Homchick (Yakov), Greg Keller (Semyon Semyonovich Medvedenko) and Marjan Neshat (Masha). Staged and directed by Viacheslav Dolgachev and translated by Paul Schmidt, the off-Broadway revival is scheduled to run through to April 13th. The Seagull has sets by Tony Award winner Santo Loquasto, costumes by Suzy Benzinger and lighting by Tony Award winner Brian MacDevitt.
