Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Broadway Revival Opens
![]() The Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat On A Hot Tin Roof officially opens March 6th at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show began previews on February 12th. The revival production, directed by Debbie Allen, is a limited run. The play has been revived on Broadway several times, but this is the first African-American-cast staging approved for Broadway by the Williams estate, although African-American-cast stagings have been produced elsewhere, most notably in 1999 by TheatreVirginia, which is thought to be the first professional African-American-cast staging of the play. The Tenneessee Williams classic revolves around a wealthy but dysfunctional Mississippi family and features "larger-than-life characters like Maggie the Cat, her alcoholic husband, Brick, and the dominating family patriarch, Big Daddy." The staging stars James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad, Terrence Howard, Anika Noni Rose, Giancarlo Esposito, Lisa Arrindell Anderson, Lou Myers, and Count Stovall. Cat On A Hot Tin Roof marks Howard's Broadway debut. The design team includes Ray Klausen (sets), William Grant (lights) and Jane Greenwood (costumes).
